Hi, I’m Kate Conroy, the UCATS presidential candidate who insisted we stay at the contract negotiations table until we got at least a 5.5% wage increase in the first year of our 2023 contract. Other negotiators would have been happy at 4%. I know we’re worth more, and will continue to fight to show that in our wages and benefits.
With me as your UCATS president you’ll be heard and respected. We’ll break from the status quo and build a thriving union community that welcomes everyone. My plan is to:
- foster collaboration and member involvement
- advocate for job titles that represent our NYU roles and duties
- champion adaptable work schedules and better work environments
It’s time for change and it’s time for growth.
We’ll make sure that every issue that you bring to us is taken seriously. I will build leadership teams through the Stewardship Districts to:
- connect with you personally and consistently about what matters to you most
- revitalize and modernize UCATS operations and organizational strategies
- hold weekly Ask-a-Steward Zooms for you to get support and guidance with workplace issues
I earned my master’s degree here at NYU using tuition remission. That imputed income tax was a burden. I plan to create the UCATS Grad School Scholarship Fund.
Our union is full of passionate organizers who want to lead. I will make the path to leadership more accessible. I will develop our council to focus on mentoring our membership and the future leaders of UCATS.
Together we have the experience to help guide and support your ambitions to:
- develop yourself toward a work promotion
- become a union leader
- secure work outside of NYU
- grind through to retirement
We will be a community of support.
My commitment to labor organizing extends beyond NYU. My wife, Marty Correia, is also a UCATS member as are many of our friends. Together we’ve lived in the East Village for over 20 years. We are community builders. You’ll find us at rallies and community meetings in support of:
- social justice
- tenants rights
- the arts
- labor
We also like to have a good time. It’s been a long time since we’ve had a UCATS holiday party. We can put something together that will be both affordable and fun. Because we need some joy with our solidarity!
We’ll fight to:
- improve our wages and benefits
- develop our community
- mentor our future leaders
